I had a friend who told me eating was a nuisance to him. If he could take his food as pills, he would. That seemed strange to me, a foodie.
Today, I found that my friend is in good company.
MCNEALY'S SIMPLE TASTES: Sun Microsystems' Chief Executive Jonathan Schwartz mentioned that Chevy's is on the best-loved list of his predecessor, Scott McNealy, at a recent event. In fact, when McNealy was still Sun's CEO, he took Schwartz to Chevy's for lunch.
Schwartz, on the other hand, is quite the foodie. So when he's had a chance to pick the restaurant, where have he and McNealy gone?
That question recently drew a blank look from McNealy.
"I eat to refuel. To him, it's an experience," said McNealy, now Sun's chairman. "I probably wouldn't remember where we went. You're wasting money on a good meal with me. With a skillet and a microwave, I can cook just about anything I want to eat."
McNealy chewed on the question some more.
"Son of a gun. I don't think that cheapskate has taken me out to dinner," McNealy said with his trademark bite. "That's why I hired him. He's cheap."
