Is there anything more basic that a kitchen towel? Yet, for some reason, good towels are hard to find. It made me crazy that some of our kitchen towels just didn't work very well. Last year, we bought a whole cupboard full of new towels of several different brands and several of them, including one from Martha Stewart, were not very absorbent.
Stop and consider that: Not absorbent? Isn't that the whole point of a towel? How can anyone design, manufacturer, and sell a towel that doesn't absorb water well?
With time and repeated washings, some improved but many didn't.
Then my friend Don Beck gave me a simple white cotton towel. It soon came to be my favorite. It's the simplest towel in the world. No colors, loops, embroidery, just cotton. They're thin and single ply.
They're "flour sack towels," widely available at kitchen and bath stores.
